1. Video Asset Management
Users searched a video database of Wisconsin Public Television's
Weekend news show by keyword. Results of the search tool are presented
as "thumbnail" images identifying specific program segments,
timecode, and closed-captioned text. Selected segments can then
be viewed using Real Media Player. This demonstration is a model
for future Internet2 enabled access of shared video assets and their
retrieval at broadband speeds.
As well, producers from Wisconsin Public Television's Digital Innovations
Unit demonstrated the encoding, logging, and database creation using
tools from Virage, Inc.

2. iCAIR Video Portal

A selection of live and server-based Internet2 video assets can
be accessed through this search tool and gateway developed by International
Center for Advanced Internet Research at Northwestern University.
"Live channels" routed through STARTAP included C-SPAN,
the Canadian Parliamentary Channel, and WTIU-TV, from Indiana University.
3. Public Television Video Portal
A model public television, Internet2 distribution service including
both live and server-based, production quality (MPEG-2) video content.
4. Collaborative video production
Using broadband MPEG over IP codecs (provided by Minerva Networks),
producers will be able to exchange, view, and discuss real-time
video segments. Live connections between Madison and WPSX-TV (PSU)
and KWSU-TV (WSU) will be established.
5. Video Editing, Sonic Foundry

Representatives from Sonic Foundry, a Madison-based Internet production
software company, will demonstrate their latest PC-based non-linear
video production tools.
6. Asset Mapping tools

Project manager Steven Vedro, will demonstrate the use of Questmap
software combined with Business Process Modeling techniques developed
by Bell Atlantic. The Reforging the Links project has extensively
used these tools for meeting facilitation and documentation and
future business model design.
7. WebTV, Interactive Broadcasting
A demonstration of the "enhancement" of local television
with web-based overlays and hypertext links to university and community-based
content resources.
